Gyllian Raby: Home

 Gyllian Raby's updated website

I opened my website in 2008 because my basement sprang a leak and ruined some old One Yellow Rabbit photos. I thought, I should protect my stuff!

I didn't maintain it and the original platform became an estranged fractal of my 2008 work. Well, everything must change and it's time to update it. Those few things that haven't changed will now sit differently next to one another.

I still think that performance is away of knowing. I still think that peeling back the layers to explore the vulnerable self is a path to healing and wisdom. I still think that the rehearsal of action bolsters intentional activism in the world we share, and that poetry and music are the bread and wine of life. I still love collaborating with people who love the myriad forms of theatre and the experience of animating the breath of life. I still practice Tai Chi Ch'uan (taijiquan) and now have my instructor's certificate from Sifu Ali Siadatan at Wu Xing Studio.

This material mostly archives my work with Brock University. There have been a dozen Mainstage productions each with accompanying research. From 2005-2009 SSHRC funding enabled me to develop sturdy and flexible processes for devised theatre using an RSVP (Halprin, Lessard, Lepage) process with my collaborators at Carousel Players theatre. I have written some papers about things that matter to me: collaborative processes, experiential time, contracting the audience, depression, flopping and failure, and the Bauhaus design movement.

I have continued a writing practice with a trail of original and collaborative adaptations and scripts. I became an associate artist with Stolen Theatre Collective and have deeply enjoyed our projects: The Ash Mouth Man, inspired by Kaaron Warren, Sabina's Splendid Brain by Cartol SInclair, and on going, A Glass of Wine with Noam Chomsky.

On going thanks to my friend Michelle of Red Dog Design who first inspired me to create a website.

Comments are welcome...

Best to all; peace, love and prosperity,

Gyllian
